Simon wins Silver & Team Gold medals at the 2008 Paralympics!
Simon has won a Silver medal in freestyle Dressage and Team Gold Medal at the 2008 Paralympics. ‘The Atmosphere here is electric’, say’s Simon, ‘I can’t believe I have 2 medals and Team GB has 10 medals - Thanks to all who have supported me’. Earlier on in the week Simon’s horse, Ocean Diamond, failed to find the form in the grade III test and could only manage 62.88% to leave him in 8th place. “He’s a horse and these things happen,” said Laurens “you have to pick yourself up, smile and crack on. But everything turned around in the Freestyle when Simon joined the medal party by adding silver to the overall tally with a Latin-inspired performance to a Ricky Martin soundtrack. “At last, I am over the moon,” said Simon, who clinched his medal with a score of 73.5%. “That’s much more like Ocean Diamond. I’m pleased for the horse and myself.”

2007 - my most successful year yet
I competed in my first international in Germany in 2006, finishing second in my first test and third in the freestyle. Last year (2007) was my most successful yet. In July, during those seriously awful floods, I won two gold medals at the FEI World Para Dressage Championships at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire. It was an amazing and awe inspiring experience, competing against 32 other countries. In September’s British Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh I retained my National Champion title in the grade III Para class which I was chuffed with.
